As this story progresses, please keep that in mind. ;)

After thirty-five minutes of blowing my hot air into this tiny circle of plastic, I finally got it set up and put it on our deck. We have too many fire ants in our lawn so the deck was Plan B.

I filled it with water, put some sunscreen on Drew, grabbed a few toys by the door and two tupperware containers, and plopped Drew in the water.

For about five seconds he just froze. And then he reached for the tupperware containers (because those rock more than actual toys, you know) and began pouring water.

A few minutes passed by and I realized that his diaper had grown about five inches all the way around him. And the water level seemed to lower quickly. Okay, that might have been an exaggeration. But, he was wearing a diaper in the pool. And regular shorts. He has one pair of swimming trunks but they are too big for him so I just let him wear a pair of cotton shorts. But the diaper? I have no clue. I just wasn’t thinking and sat there staring as he took in a lot of water around very-sensitive-to-temperature-parts. He suddenly looked at me and squeaked. I still didn’t get it.

But as the serene sun shone and the beautiful breeze blew, I watched my sincerely sweet son enjoy his first pool experience. Yes, that was an awful sentence but I laughed so hard after I read it that I couldn’t delete it. Anyway, he really did start playing and laughing as he splashed around.

After watching Drew crawl very oddly in the pool, it suddenly hit me that his diaper had to be ANNOYING HIM TO PIECES. I felt like a fool and quickly stripped him down and let him skinny dip his last few minutes in the pool.

He flung himself back into the water, grinning wildly. Only to squeak loudly again and then half crouch. He looked at me oddly and then slowly sank into the water. I couldn’t help but just die laughing.

While talking with Daniel later in the afternoon, I mentioned that maybe I should use warm water in the future since Drew seemed to be so shivery those last few minutes and there was a pause and then Daniel said ,”YOU USED COLD WATER?! MY POOR SON!”

Sigh.

I’m such a horrible mother.

Saturday morning snack time

Sometimes I walk into the nursery to see him swaying as hard as he can at the end of the crib that faces the morning sunshine. It’s as though he is doing a good morning dance.

I have hung a blanket on the wall above Drew’s changing table that my Grandmother Betty gave him. Now when I lay him down to change his diaper, he jumps right up and leans against the wall and hugs it. He then points to all the animals while I get the wipes and diaper ready and finally I say, “Drew. Diaper!” And he ignores me. And we go through that a few times and finally I just lay him down and then the game becomes peek-a-boo as he grabs the bottom of the blanket and pulls it over his face while I do the dirty work. He does this every single time I change his diaper. I just know one day he is going to totally aim for the blanket and ruin Grandma Betty’s lovely gift.

You can also see in that picture how long his hair is getting. I am ignoring the fact that my child may have a slight version of a mullet. Everyone in my family is mentioning that I need to “get that child’s hair cut! He looks like a girl!” But I’m not cutting it. Yet. I think his hair looks absolutely precious.

We go for a walk in The Valley every day and Drew loves to watch the birds and bunnies flit about through the beautiful green (and sneezy) land. He wiggles his toes when something especially exciting occurs and each time we walk by our neighbors roosters I see Drew eyeing them carefully.

Apparently, my small son has also joined a gang and is already fluent in the gang signs. I’m not too happy that he has chosen to learn these signs BEFORE ENGLISH.

I do have one embarrassing thing to mention. Ever since Drew was about six months old, I’ve made this awful face at him complete with a “HeeyUGH” noise in hopes that he would mimic it because I just thought that would be something a good mother should do. It has been a long time coming but Drew finally has mastered this same facial expression.

Drew isn’t terribly picky about the food he eats. Although, he did get slightly bored with the amount of lima beans I gave him today. I just COULD NOT GET ENOUGH and naturally assumed that he would feel the same way. I’ve heard how other kids are picky and that one day they’ll just spit it all right back out and ask for a cheeseburger. But Drew has never done that. In fact, I can feed him pretty much anything. The only food that he really pushes away is cheerios. He doesn’t do this right away. He eats about ten or so and then just looks at them and starts throwing them around. I even saw a few cheerios in my shoes today and I won’t even begin to go into the story of how there are STILL a pile of cheerios inside of our car.

I realized his true feelings about cheerios when I gave him a few today and he just laid his head over on the highchair like he was having the worst day ever.

But he finally took a few more bites and then I said “HeeyUGH!”

And this was on the day he learned to say...

Drew has learned to play peek-a-boo while covering one eye with his hand

He also has a fascination with wheels on any toys - he spins them FOREVER

As of this weekend, he is officially on whole milk

Another child bit him on the hand today and although it didn’t break the skin, you can clearly see the teeth marks. His first bite! Ha! At least he didn’t bite the kid back.

He is no longer content to just play in one room at Grammy & Poppy’s house now. He has to RUN ALL OVER THE HARDWOOD FLOORS. Which, as you can imagine, is an accident waiting to happen. Well, he actually did already have a hardwood floor attack after getting too wiggly near the dishwasher. *Smack*
